Malibu's coastline is littered with so many beautiful vistas and rock formations, you could spend weeks, months trying to find each one. El Matador Beach is a famous place in Malibu, frequently visited on the weekends during the summer months. This just happened to be a moment when everyone was leaving and the sun was setting. Tide was coming in fast in between a shot like this, so I had to hurry quickly before my gear would get wet.
It only took 6 years to finally get this shot. July 2013 - tripod ballhead issues, along with forgetting my camera trigger gave me blurry out of focus stars. Nov 2016 - frigid single digit temps, at 8,500ft elevation, frozen fingers and toes along with heavy cloud coverage, produced no photos. July 2019 - SUCCESS!!!!! Beautiful weather, my camera gear in working order, no clouds and a new moon, makes for a stunning shot like this. Just like in life, photography is a love that challenges you every single moment. From a pro photographer with many years under their belt to the novice just starting out, some times you walk away successful, sometimes you fail. It's the failures that only make the successes like this, that much sweeter.
