Lake Bled is just breathtakingly beautiful, a fairytale, Cinderella-esque setting with views like this. Most of the morning drive from Ljubljana to Bled was overcast clouds and when we arrived in Bled, it was raining ever so slightly, with a foggy mist hanging in the air. Most of the skies were just murky grey which didn’t really make for great landscape shots of this stunning church. After taking the boat ride over to visit and then a relaxing lunch back at shore, the sun came out and those puffy white clouds littered the sky. We started driving around the lake to find different angles to shoot, when we happened across this one. A gorgeous mirrored reflection in the water. So tranquil, so picturesque, so stunning. Funny story behind this shot. My British friend, my US photographer friend and I were traveling from Bath to see Stonehenge. We arrived about 2 hours before it closed and found out some rich group of people had rented out Stonehenge for the remainder of opening hours. They were able to walk amongst the stones, getting right up next to them. Relinquishing the fact that I would not be able to get close to them, I figured out another composition for my shot. Waiting for close to an hour for those annoying people to clear the grounds, I stood with my camera propped above my head on the top of the chain link fence. I wasn't even looking through the viewfinder and clicked off a bunch of shots. The results I got were amazing and I actually like the distance they are in the shot. Massive behemoth giants of rocks but framed so small and delicately on a beautiful green field, surrounded by an amazing blue sky and puffy clouds. After a long, fun, exhilarating day of driving up one side and down the other, and then back again, over the Stelvio Pass, we were treated to these gorgeous overcast clouds with the sunlight peaking through, along with the gorgeous valley, mountains and hairpin spaghetti-like turns. I am glad we were able to stop on this leg of the journey, for all of the way coming up the mountainside we were racing up empty roads and having a blast. 75 hairpin turns of fun to be exact. A good way to end the day; a beautiful image seared in our memories forever. Passo dello Stelvio/SS38 Google Maps Location: http://goo.gl/C4SeGp
